Cutover file migration import session

Network-attached storage is a file-level storage architecture that makes stored data more accessible to networked devices.

You can cut over an import session that is in the Ready_to_Cutover state.

NOTE:  When the NAS server is cut over successfully, the state of the file import session is set to Ready_to_Commit. Cutover may cause a temporary data unavailability to the NAS clients. During cut over, the production file interfaces are disabled on the source system and are enabled on the destination system. For a SMB import, the switchover is disruptive for the clients and the Active Directory configuration is imported if needed. For a NFS import, the switchover is transparent as file handles are preserved, NLM locks are reclaimed on the destination.

Steps

  1. Select a storage system that supports PowerMax File migration.
  2. Select Data Protection > File Migration.
  3. Select File Imports.
  4. Select a session and click Cutover.
  5. Type values for the following properties:
    • Computer Name—Name of the computer
    • Domain—The domain name
    • Domain Admin User —The username of the Domain administrator
    • Domain Admin Password—The password of the Domain administrator
  6. Select Standalone Server checkbox.
  7. Do one of the following:
    • Click Run In The Background to perform the operation in the background.
    • Expand Run In The Background, and click Add to Job List to add this task to the job list, from which you can schedule or run the task at your convenience. For more information, see Schedule jobs and Preview jobs.

Results

The following cutover processing occurs:
  • The production file interfaces are disabled on the source system and are enabled on the destination system.
    NOTE: For a SMB import, the switchover is disruptive for the clients and the Active Directory configuration is imported if needed. For a NFS import, the switchover is transparent as file handles are preserved, NLM locks are reclaimed on the destination.
  • The incremental background data copy operation begins after the cutover completes. The file system data is moved to the destination in the background.
  • The destination system serves the clients. Data that is requested by the client is synchronized immediately. Write operations are synchronized back to the source system before acknowledging, so the source remains authoritative. A rollback is possible at any time. I/O throughput is degraded at this stage.
    NOTE: The service is interrupted when the source data becomes unavailable.
NOTE: Cutover may cause a temporary data unavailability to the NAS clients.
